Intracranial arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) and aneurysms are conditions that can cause serious neurologic problems, hemorrhage, or even death. Many people with these conditions can remain asymptomatic until time of rupture. Over the last decade, many improvements have been made in the treatment and management of AVMs and aneurysms, The Acute Care Nurse Practitioners of the Neuro-endovascular Service at Cottage Hospital will present prevalence, incidence, and current treatment strategies for AVMs and aneurysms. The presentation will include discussion of patient case studies and nursing interventions specific to our patient population.


Course Objectives:

Describe the difference between an aneurysm and a vascular malformation

Discuss potential endovascular procedures used in the treatment of aneurysms and vascular malformations

Identify major post procedure concerns following an endovascular procedure
