This two-day course is designed to present a comprehensive review in the care of the neurological/neurosurgical adult patient.  The core curriculum is used as both an outline and a guide for course materials.  All nurse and allied health professionals involved in the care of neurological patients and who intend to sit for the CNRN exam will benefit from this course.

Upon completion of this course, the participant will be able to:

  • describe the anatomy and physiology of the neurologic system
  • list key components of the clinical assessment
  • discuss diagnosis, select treatment, and nursing processes for pathologic conditions such as seizures, infections, and tumors of the CNS
  • discuss spinal cord anatomy, assessment, and injury syndromes
  • describe diseases of the cerebrovascular system and patient management
  • list the causes of ICP and brain injury
  • discuss the management and prevention of secondary brain injury
  • develop appropriate test-taking strategies for the CNRN exam
  • demonstrate a rehabilitation understanding
