Volunteer Opportunities
The Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital Auxiliary needs your help! We're looking to expand our volunteer corps to be ready for the opening of the new hospital in early 2012. If you or someone you know may be interested in volunteering, we have a wide vareity of opportunities.
Men and women of all ages are needed in almost every department of the hospital, including:

Ambassadors
Greet and provide customer support and way-finding assistance to our patients, families, staff and visitors. Must have a warm, and out going personality and the ability to stand for several hours. (Must be 18 years or older)
Daily: • 8 a.m.-12 p.m. • 12-4 p.m. • 4-8 p.m.

Caring Hands
Sew teddy bears for our Emergency, Outpatient, and Eye Center departments, along with heart-shaped pillows for our heart and abdominal surgery patients.
Tuesdays: • 9 a.m.-12 p.m.

Clerical Support (Various departments)
Assist staff with filing, photocopying, and collating educational materials/correspondence and making chart packets. Run errands for staff as needed.
Monday - Friday: • One shift of 4 hours; times flexible
|
|
Compassionate Care / No One Dies Alone (NODA)
Provide patient and families with a friendly visitor. Volunteers need to be self-confident and skilled in reflective listening. Additional training required

Emergency Department Volunteer
Assist staff with stocking supplies, running errands, preparing room, etc.
Daily: • 8 a.m.-12 p.m. • 12-4 p.m. • 4-8 p.m. • 8 p.m.-12 a.m.

Eye Center
Assist Eye Center staff in providing a smooth flow of care to patients by performing non-clinical, clerical, and guest relations. Under the supervision and training of personnel of the Eye Center, volunteers will provide complementary and supplementary service to the patients and staff.
Monday - Friday: • 9 a.m.-1 p.m. • 1-4 p.m.

Gift Shop
This retail boutique provides unique gifts for the convenience of patients, visitors, and staff. Volunteers are given opportunities to sell and merchandise to our customers. Must be a customer- service oriented person.
Daily: • 9 a.m.-1 p.m. • 1-4:30 p.m.

Laboratory
Assist with the delivery of items to the patient floors and treatment areas.
Flexible

Patient Library
Deliver books and magazines to patient rooms, lobbies, and wait area throughout the hospital.
Daily: • One shift of 4 hours; times flexible

Lifeline Installer (18+)
Under the direction of the Lifeline Manager, install, change, and remove Lifeline units at the client's premises.
Monday - Friday: • Flexible hours

Menus
Distribute menus and assist patients in selecting menu choices, and deliver completed menus to the Dietary office.
Daily: • 9 a.m. -12 p.m.
|
|
Patient Care Volunteer
Assist with re-stocking of supplies, passing food trays, interacting with patients and families, and patient discharges. (Must be 18 years or older for NICU and Pediatrics)
Daily: • 8 a.m.-12 p.m. • 4-8 p.m.

Patient / Visitor Services
Visit patients and provide opportunities for patients and their visitors to share their stories and interests. Essentially be a good listener and exhibit compassion.
Daily: • 9 a.m.-12 p.m. • 12-4 p.m.

Patient Transport
Assist staff with transporting patients between departments.
Daily: • 8 a.m.-12 p.m. • 12-4 p.m. • 4-8 p.m.

Pet Assisted Therapy
Volunteers and their well-behaved dog or other suitable pet visit patients.
Daily: • One shift of 1 hour; times flexible

|
Pre-Admit Unit
Under the supervision of the Pre-Surgery Charge Nurse, coordinate the smooth flow of patients through scheduled procedures by performing non-medical, clerical and customer service duties.
Monday - Friday: • 8 a.m.-12 p.m. • 12-4 p.m.

Surgery Waiting Area
Serve as a liaison between families in the waiting area and clinical staff in the patient recovery room.
Monday - Friday: • 8 a.m.-12 p.m. • 12-4 p.m. • 4-8 p.m.

Tray Favors
Create handmade favors for patients' meal trays. The purpose of this committee is to give our patients an expression of care and encouragement from our volunteers.
Thursdays: • 1 -3:30 p.m.

Aquatics Therapy
Assist and support the Aquatic Therapy Team and program participants under the direct supervision.

Junior Wheelchair Camp
Help campers in recreational activities. Summer only
