Maternity Center Tours

Course Content
• A visit to our newly renovated birthing rooms
• Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital's family-centered approach to birth
• Pre-admission, visitor guidelines, parking, and other relevant patient information

This tour is included in the Prepared Childbirth Series.

No pre-registration or reservation necessary. Tours last 30 to 45 minutes.

Fee: No charge

Location: Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital -- meet in the main lobby at the intersection of Pueblo and Castillo Streets 5-10 minutes before each tour.

Time: 6 p.m. and 7 p.m.

Dates: Every Tuesday (except on holidays)

Prepared Childbirth Series

Course Content
This seven-class series held during the third trimester (but enroll early) is ideal for first-time parents or anyone wanting a comprehensive overview of events surrounding birth.

• Breathing and relaxation techniques for labor
• The normal process of labor, medical options for birth, and the coaching role for labor companions
• The postpartum period with an emphasis on care of the new mom and baby
• Series includes the following Birth and Parent Education courses:
    • Maternity Center Tour
    • Cesarean Childbirth
    • Breastfeeding
    • New Parent Classes

Sibling Preparation

Course Content
The class will describe differences between “baby and me” and allow siblings to express feelings about the new baby.  It will also explore ways that big brother or big sister can help the family.  The class includes a tour of the Mother-Infant unit.
