Saving Time Can Save a Life:
Helipad Activity at SBCH

Since emergency helicopters began landing at SBCH in February 2012, an average of five flights per week have used the helipad.

The graphs below illustrate the activity in two ways.

The first shows the number of landings per week, with a breakdown of whether the landings were between 7:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. or between 10:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m.

Cottage Community Concerns Line: 569-8917

The second illustrates the types of medical emergencies that trigger the drastic measures of transporting a patient by helicopter. Most of the cases in the first two months of operation were brain injury related, often stroke, hemorrhage, or traumatic brain injury.  Other causes include trauma such as auto accidents and severe pediatric medical conditions.
