Trauma Facts & Figures

In 2009, there were approximately 42,000 emergency department visits at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital, and 1,700 patients initiated a full trauma center response  About 1,200 of those patients were admitted to the hospital. Many of those critically ill patients who were not expected to live survived, thanks to the care of the SBCH trauma team.

Trauma Services are fully integrated with SBCH's Critical Care Services, which include adult, pediatric, and neonatal intensive care units.

SBCH is also a trauma research facility, making significant contributions to the emergency medicine field.

The Center's continuous quality assessment and performance improvement program is coordinated with trauma research, and includes:

• Multidisciplinary performance review committee
• Trauma registry
• Trauma outcomes benchmarked to national trauma data bank
