Breast Care Center Named ACR Center of Excellence
Goleta Valley Cottage Hospital's Breast Care Center has been designated as a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology (ACR). The Center is now fully accredited in mammography, stereotactic breast biopsy, breast ultrasound, and ultrasound-guided breast biopsy.
The ACR designation recognizes facilities that have earned accreditation in all of the College’s voluntary, breast-imaging accreditation programs and modules, in addition to the mandatory Mammography Accreditation Program.
Peer-review evaluations, conducted in each breast imaging modality by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field, have determined that this facility has achieved high practice standards in image quality, personnel qualifications, facility equipment, quality control procedures, and quality assurance programs.
The American College of Radiology has previously recognized GVCH for mammography, CT scanning and stereotatic breast biopsy.
American College of Radiology (ACR) accreditation is a peer-reviewed, educationally-focused evaluation process to help assure the highest level of image quality and safety. It documents that the facility meets accreditation requirements for equipment, continuing education and personnel. Clinical and phantom image quality review as well as radiation dose assessments are critical elements of accreditation.
