Children’s Hospital Pediatric/Neonatal Transport System

Known as "the critical care bed on wheels," CCH’s specialized ambulance program transports critically ill newborns, children, and high-risk maternity patients — nearly 300 patients each year.   Equipped with special pediatric equipment, one ambulance is dedicated to the pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) and transports children who are  from 1 day old to 17 years of age. The other is dedicated to the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) for transferring newborns from area hospitals to CCH’s NICU.
Both ambulances are staffed with a registered nurse and respiratory care therapist, under the medical direction of one of our specially-trained pediatric physicians, and is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It is the only special ambulance program offering active pediatric transport between Los Angeles and the Bay area — north to Vandenberg, west to Arroyo Grande, east to Bakersfield, south to the San Fernando Valley.
