Children’s Hospital Pediatric/Neonatal Transport System
|
Known as "the critical care bed on wheels," CCH’s specialized ambulance program transports critically ill newborns, children, and high-risk maternity patients — nearly 300 patients each year.
Equipped with special pediatric equipment, one ambulance is dedicated to the pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) and transports children who are from 1 day old to 17 years of age. The other is dedicated to the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) for transferring newborns from area hospitals to CCH’s NICU.

| Both ambulances are staffed with a registered nurse and respiratory care therapist, under the medical direction of one of our specially-trained pediatric physicians, and is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It is the only special ambulance program offering active pediatric transport between Los Angeles and the Bay area — north to Vandenberg, west to Arroyo Grande, east to Bakersfield, south to the San Fernando Valley. |
